Happy International Volunteer Day 2022!

“...The values of Community First Development are effective and authentic and the reason why I have continued to do volunteering.”   Quote from volunteer – 2022 volunteer survey

This International Volunteer Day, Community First Development acknowledges the untiring work, commitment, and adaptability of our skilled volunteers. This year's theme is 'Solidarity through Volunteering'.

Volunteers play a vital role in responding to challenges facing the world, and our skilled volunteers at Community First Development are no exception. It is a privilege to work alongside volunteers who share our values of collaboration and First Nations self-determination, and exhibit these in their support of the communities we work alongside.

“Susan is amazing – She just makes it seem oh so simple.” Bruce, CEO Gulgen Care

Susan has been a volunteer and donor since 2006, and this year has enjoyed having more free time to strengthen her connection to Community First Development. When the devastating floods hit Queensland and Northern NSW earlier this year, one of our community partners in Lismore NSW reached out for urgent support. Susan worked alongside Bruce, community member and CEO of Gulgen Care, supporting them to successfully obtain disaster relief funding. A strong relationship was formed, and Susan has continued to support Gulgen Care with other projects, including registering as an NDIS organisation. In October 2022, Susan travelled to Lismore to meet with Bruce and the board, to put together their next steps in the registration process.

"Susan embodies what it means to be a Community First Development volunteer, she is kind, thoughtful and takes a gentle ‘listening first’ approach when working alongside community." Volunteer Coordinator Aimee Bacchetto.

Thank you to Susan and all our volunteers for your outstanding support of First Nations communities.

Volunteer Susan, SCDO Gwen, CEO Bruce and Board of Director member, Gemma
